who is a2z?
-
Who is a2z? We are a team of educators with deep expertise and experience in working with individuals and systems on issues of educational equity.
-
Why a2z? Because all work in schools requires an equity mindset. Implementing curriculum, trauma informed, or restorative practices? It's equity work. Hiring, budgeting, scheduling? It’s equity work. Disproportionality in discipline, academics, special education? It’s equity work. School climate, student voice, or family engagement? It’s equity work.
-
What we hope to do? we work in partnership with school, districts and community organizations to build the capacity to use an equity framework in all the work of the organization. That means we coach leaders, train teams, conduct equity audits, develop equity plans, and assist in the implementation and evaluation of those plans.
-
Why do we use lower case letters in our name, logo, and some headings? We style ourselves after bell hooks, who used lower case letters in her name, so that people would focus on her work and ideas, rather than on herself and her identities. Further, we use lowercase to signal familiarity - our approach is about relationships, and not formality.
what we do
a2z centers equity through a critical consciousness framework. Self-awareness is important for being able to respond to the world around us. This is why a2z regularly affords members the opportunity to critically reflect, think, and engage as you grow in capacity, engagement, strategy, and sustainability.
We support you to:

-
Reflect and understand who you are and how you came to know who you are

-
Develop tools and frameworks to plan, implement, and improve practices
